Focus on education to change fate of Pakistan

Karachi:Whole nation should focus on education to change the destiny of Pakistan, said Pasban Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman Altaf Shakoor, adding government should utilize full resources to revamp outdated education system in the country.

In a statement, he said we strongly believe that education is the key factor for rapid growth and progress of Pakistan and its people. He said if the fate of Pakistan is to be changed it would be changed only through better education. Altaf Shakoor repeated the demand of his party that every district in Pakistan must have at least one general university, teaching hospital, engineering college, agricultural college and technical college, all in government sector. He said technical and vocational education should be aggressively promoted to end prevailing joblessness and to create ample job opportunities for Pakistani youth in the country and abroad by training their vocations and trades that are in high demand.

He said the whole nation is with parents on the issue of steep fees of private schools and we will not allow commercialization of education in Pakistan. He said we have been demanding for long to end dual education system in Pakistan and there should be one syllabus for all schools. There should also be one examination board and primary education should be given in mother tongues, and secondary education in the national language Urdu.

He said we are against separate high-standard schools for the children of elite class and so-called ‘yellow schools’ for the children of the poor. He said sadly our private schools are becoming a mafia and they are looting the parents with both hands. He said all schools that do not follow the directives of the apex courts regarding fee issue should be closed down, their franchises banned and their owners arrested and sent to jail. He said we are not against private schools, but we will not allow them to become a mafia and make education a trade in Pakistan.
