Four arrested over charge of deducting BISP amount

NAUNDERO:Four people were arrested by Madeji police after receipt of complaints of illegal deductions from the amount of beneficiaries of Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) in Madeji but were released later after alleged extortion payment.

They were identified as BISP Center Incharge Mujeeb Junejo, Akhtiar, Salman and Waqar Kalhoro. The affected poor women, including Hameeda Khatoon, Nasim Shaikh, Rani Kehar and others told media persons that Rs 500 to 1000 were being deducted through BISP Center agents from each woman’s amount which was great injustice and cruel act as they were poverty-stricken women and most of them were widows.

When cops were contacted, they claimed that they received complaints of massive mismanagement due to which they called Center Incharge and others to clarify their position. They further claimed that they were let off after some explanations. However, the affected women alleged that if police and agents were not involved in paying less amount than the actual, then why fixed amount was not being given to them by the BISP and why delaying tactics were being made. The women demanded of relevant higher authorities to order a probe into the issue and take stern action against those found involved in this crime.
