Free eye camp begins from Jan 10

KARACHI: A 10-member delegation of Chinese ophthalmologists, eye surgeons and support staff are arriving in Karachi tomorrow to perform 500 cataract eye operations at Pakistan Eye Bank Society (PEBS) Hospital in North Karachi from January 10 to 24, 2018.

PEBS Hospital Medical Director Dr Qazi Wasiq while talking to PPI informed that under the Bright Journey Pakistan Project, 500 eye operations would be carried out by the Chinese team free of cost at the hospital. He said it was in pursuance of Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) and Chinese Medical Association (CMA) collaboration to strengthen Pak-China medical corridor.

He said more than 500 patients throughout Sindh province had been registered through screening camps for surgeries. He said the delegation comprises eminent Chinese ophthalmologists, nurses, technicians and other staff.

He said it was first ever such activity as a gesture of goodwill and to promote friendly relations between the two countries. He hoped that similar activities will follow in other fields of medicine throughout Pakistan.

Earlier, four-member Chinese delegations, headed by Deputy Director, International Health Exchange Cooperation Centre (IHECC) China, Ms Hu Meiqi, signed an MOU with Pakistan Medical Association (PMA), and offered to bear all expenses in organizing free eye camp as a gift to the poor & needy patients of Pakistan from China. The Chinese team had also visited PEBS hospital to evaluate available facilities and discuss the details of protocols and SOPs for the planned free eye camp.
