Grand jirga settles Mahar-Abro communities’ bloody dispute

LARKANA:A grand jirga settled old bloody dispute between Abro and Mahar communities at village Wada Mahar near Larkana on Thursday.

Maulvi Muhammad Ali Jatt and Liaquat Ali Mahar presided over the jirga. Notables of both communities, including Qutubuddin Abro, Badaruddin Abro, Ghulam Hussain Mahar and Ghulam Shabir Mahar also participated along with a large number of their respective community members.

Two murders and some injured of Mahar community were proved to have been committed by their rival Abro community but Mahar community forgave Abro community both the murders showing great will and heart.

Abro community was fined Rs 600,000 for injured, Rs 3 million were also imposed on it for leading or starting the dispute along with another fine of Rs 5 million.

In total, Abro community was fined for Rs 8.6 million. The jirga heads also decided that if anyone found starting the dispute again, then the same community will be fined Rs 10 million. Both communities accepted the decision and embraced each other.

The headmen further directed both communities to go to the shrine of Hussainabad in Kambar and embrace each other for ending the old dispute. Rs 3 million were paid on the spot by the Abro community to Mahar community.

Syed Zahid Shah, Syed Hayat Shah and Syed Sikander Ali Shah also participated in the jirga which was held under the directions of Syed Ghulam Hussain Shah. It must be mentioned here that Jirga system has been banned by the court, terming it a parallel system and state within state.
