HSC exam: 152 cheating cases detected in Larkana division

LARKANA:As many as 152 cheating and 13 impersonation cases were detected on the very first day of annual examination of Higher Secondary School Certificate Part-I paper of Urdu Salis across the limits of Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE), Larkana, here on Thursday.

Out of these 62 were in Larkana along with 11 impersonation cases, 31 in Kambar-Shahdadkot including 02 impersonation cases, 42 in Shikarpur, 02 in Kashmore including 02 cases of impersonation and 15 in Dadu districts and no case was found in Jacobabad. Such a large number of cheating cases has once again exposed the substandard arrangements that have been made to eradicate meance of using unfair means.

As many as 74,734 male and female students are appearing in Higher Secondary School (HSC) Part-I and II annual examinations 2019 that commenced today under the jurisdiction of Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE), Larkana, out of which 20,441 females are of government institutes and 1018 girls from private institutes. Likewise, 50,413 males are from government institutes and 2,861 from private institutes. For all these candidates as many as 97 examination centers have been established throughout Larkana Division and part of Dadu district out of which 37 are for males, 26 for females and 34 are combined.

The students are giving exam for pre-engineering, pre-medical, humanities (private and regular) and commerce groups. The 21,033 candidates are appearing in pre-medical group final and 13,375 in pre-engineering final and only 478 in commerce final. These figures prove that most of the students either want to be a doctor or an engineer but very low number intend to be either a banker or a businessman. The exam will continue till April 29 for which strict arrangements have been made so that cheating practices could be curbed.

All kinds of devices were banned, but no CCTV cameras was installed to monitor students and invigilators as suggested by Commissioner, Sukkur Division. 35 vigilance teams have been constituted to conduct searching raids at the centers. Section 144 has been imposed under which no outsider will be allowed and if anyone is found, the relevant SHO has been authorized to register an FIR against such person.

The standard and quality of education at government educational institutions, including universities in Sindh, has declined to a record low level as compared to private institutions. It could be judged from these three examples.

One student of BS of Sindh University told this scribe on Thursday requesting anonymity that when he entered the class room on very first day, a professor covered his period and started writing on the board along-with explaining the subject to about 100 students in the classroom. After 50 minutes, when his period time ended, the professor said that in today’s lecture, he had taught you two to three chapters and during your semester examination, questions will be asked from those chapters whereas he only gave them lecture for one chapter.

Another student, who is studying Law in Quaid-e-Azam University Islamabad, said that education and the teachers are very tough here. He said they had to study and understand relevant subjects till 6.00 pm and no lecturer or Professor would either leave the university or the classroom till they fully understand their lectures. He said had he studied law in Sindh and he would have never even be able to learn what is Law.

Another student who passed BBA from Sindh University said that when he took admission in Iqra University Karachi for doing MBA, he was astonished to find himself completely illiterate in comparison to other fellow students who were also doing MBA. He said he had to refresh his entire BBA subjects for which he worked very hard to match the competence of his colleagues. After that he was able to study MBA. He said teachers did not discharge their legal and moral duties but only rely on monthly salaries. He said teacher, lecturers and professors should be made accountable.
