Info minister visits martyred cop’s house, condoles with victim family

KARACHI:Sindh Minister for Information and Labor Saeed Ghani has said that the people of Sindh province and the Sindh government highly value the sacrifices made by the Sindh police to maintain the peace and security in the province.

“Sindh police personnel have made immense sacrifices to maintain law and order throughout Sindh including Karachi,” he said on Thursday during a visit to the home of policeman Mohammed Irfan, who was shot dead by armed robbers in New Karachi. Ghani condoled with the father of martyred Mohammad Irfan and offered Fateha for the departed soul on the occasion.

He said that the entire nation was proud of the security personnel like martyred Mohammad Irfan. He said that in this time of sorrow, the Sindh government was with the family of Muhammad Irfan. Ghani said that the Sindh government would do its utmost in providing justice to the family of martyred Mohammad Irfan. The provincial minister said that the murderers of Mohammad Irfan would be brought to justice soon.

Talking about the replacement of Inspector General of Police, Sindh, Ghani said that everything was being done in accordance with the law. He clarified that during a meeting in December, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah talked to Prime Minister Imran Khan regarding the replacement of incumbent IGP, Sindh.

He said that the Sindh Chief Minister informed the Premier about all the compelling reasons after which the Sindh government finally decided for the replacement of Syed Kaleem Imam. The provincial minister said that there were all compelling reasons, which included continuous degradation in the performance of the police force in particular, after which the Sindh government decided to replace the incumbent IGP Sindh.

He said that according to the Crime Index, the situation of law and order further deteriorated across the province in 2019 as compared to 2018. Ghani said that the police’s job was to protect the people and control the law and order, rather than holding press conferences and to give unreasonable statements. He said that during the incumbent IGP Sindh’s tenure, not only the number of people killed by the straight firing of police personnel increased, but on the other hand, people’s confidence in the police force also decreased.

He said that in his yesterday’s press conference he had told all those compelling reasons in detail after which the Sindh cabinet decided to ask the federal government for the replacement of IGP Sindh Syed Kaleem Imam.

Ghani further said that he would just like to ask that when four Inspector Generals of Police could be replaced in such a short span of time in Punjab, and that has been happening in KP too, then why people criticized when it was done in Sindh. He said that it was the responsibility of the Sindh government to protect the lives of the people of their province, and that was what it had been mandated to do, and whatever the government had to do for it, it must do so. He said that there should be no different scales for testing performance of the government in all four provinces.
