JI for strong action against all ‘Leaks accused’

LAHORE: Secretary General, Jamaat e Islami, Liaqat Baloch, has said that the ruling party was defeated in the Senate elections due to the cracks within its own ranks and added that the Senators of the MMA parties had voted for the government candidate Raja Zafarul Haq.

He was addressing the participants of the JI central workshop at Mansoora on Wednesday.

The JI Secretary General counselled the ruling party to abandon the policy of confrontation with the state institutions as this would destroy the whole set up. He said that the corruption of the dictators ruling under the cover of democracy had created difficulties for the state. The ruling junta was plundering public money to maintain status quo and was making propaganda against the state institutions only to protect their ill-gotten wealth.

He urged the judiciary to show strong nerves and bring to book all those named in the Panama leaks, Dubai Leaks and London leaks and those devouring billions of bank loans. He assured that the entire nation was behind the judiciary. He however added that the accountability should not disturb the elections.

Liaqat Baloch said that the accountability of an individual or a single family was not enough. He said that the accountability process would be fruitful only if all the plunderers were brought to accountability and every penny of the public money was recovered from them.

He said that the electoral system had been corrupted and leaders of all parties were talking of horse trading in the Senate elections. He said the Senate election had exposed the weaknesses of the electoral system and if the Election Commission failed to hold fair, free and impartial elections during the year, the masses’ confidence in the electoral process would be shaken. He said that the Election Commission should initiate steps to make the forthcoming elections reliable.
