JI leader for fair polls

LAHORE: Secretary General, Jamaat e Islami, Liaqat Baloch, has said it would be a big challenge for the political and democratic parties to strictly follow the constitution, the democratic process and the electoral code of conduct to ensure fair, free and transparent elections.

He was addressing mass Iftar party at Gulberg. Baoch, who is also Secretary General of the MMA, said that the MMA would participate in the elections in a big way and would try to safeguard the constitution and the democratic system. The MMA would also try to bring around religious and democratic forces in order to achieve a healthy relationship between the politics and the state.

He said that a new political grouping was essential in the elections to get rid of the trend to suppress politics. He said that general elections had their own culture and no state institution could thrust its will totally in every sphere. He deplored that the outgoing federal government had been unable to highlight India’s terrorism in Held Kashmir as also its water aggression against this country. He said that Pakistan as a nuclear state, must adopt a dignified and respectable policy for national security to safeguard its vital interests and also effectively counter the enemy conspiracies.
