KARACHI: A large number of people belonging to civil society, human rights, and other social held a protest demonstration outside Karachi Press Club (KPC) on Thursday against the murder of minor girl Zainab in Kasur district some days back.
They also lodged their protest against the murder and demanded punishment to the culprits and justice to the victim family along with compensation.
The protesters, carrying placards, banners and victim’s pictures, were chanting slogans against the Punjab government.
Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar said: “We have strongly condemn the murder of Zainab and demand from the ruling government to arrest culprit and award him strict punish as soon as possible.
Akhtar said there was no law and accountability in Pakistan, as the people were facing several issues. He said they could not tolerate more injustice.
He said according to a report, 11 children face such kind of injustice and child abuse daily in Pakistan. We have to be united against injustice.
Talking to media persons, social leader Rana Asif said that a man had raped and murdered at least 100 children in 1999 in Lahore but the government was still on same place. He said politicians had invested billions on account of infrastructure but no ministry could be formed for child protection.
Asif said more than 1700 cases of sexual harassment and child abuse were reported in 2017, but the government could not arrest culprits.
Syed Tahseen Abidi said the provincial and federal governments should make law and legislation for child protection.
Meanwhile, the activists of Human Rights Commission of Pakistan and Social Welfare Department also held a protest against the murder.
