LDA employees demo against salary delay

LARKANA: The employees of Larkana Development Authority (LDA) held a unique protest demonstration for the eighth consecutive day near local press club here on Monday against non-payment of monthly salaries for last five months.

One of the employees, who works as junior clerk namely Nadim poured petrol on his body and tried to commit self-immolation but timely intervention by his colleagues saved his life.

Employees were holding symbolic begging-bowls in their hands along with banners, placards and shouting slogans against government’s failure to regularize their monthly salaries.

Masood Abro, Kamran Mahesar, Nadim Qureshi, Maula Bux Dayo, Mohammad Hayat Wagan and others told reporters that the families of 256 low-paid employees have been forced to starve because the LDA is virtually non-functional for last five years.

They said that more than eleven employees have left LDA jobs and five others have expired.

They said the Sindh Government has failed to post a full time Director General of the authority due to which they are suffering for no fault of theirs.

They demanded payment of salaries through District Accounts Office, Larkana, or else, they warned, they will commit self-immolation again on December 20.
