KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhtar has termed as an historic judgment announced by the Chief Justice of Pakistan to build two dams – Bhasha and Mohmand Dams.
He said judgment was highly appreciable and Rs10 lac donated by Chief Justice to build the dam was also a historic step and the whole country should follow him.
Wasim said following the donation by Chief Justice of Pakistan, he had donated Rs one lac from personal account and KMC officers had donated Rs one lac for the dams.
Mayor said it was a good omen that provinces had no conflict in building of those dams as he quoted that council of common interest (CCI) had no issue on the construction of those dams. The acute water shortage in the country could cause drought and nations had been destroyed due to water scarcity .
He made an humble appeal to well to do people of Karachi to come forward and donate generously in the account nominated by Chief Justice of Pakistan.
Mayor urged philanthropists to come forward and give their due share for the construction of desalination plant as Karachi had given them a lot.
Mayor said it was unfortunate that billions of gallons of water was wasted.
