Mourning Day announced over mass killings in KP and B’stan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan will observe a mourning day on Sunday (tomorrow) to express grief and solidarity with the victim families over the killing of many innocent people in deadly attacks in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces of the country. The national flag will fly half mast on the mourning day.

The announcement was made by Prime Minister Nasirul Mulk in Islamabad today a day after a suicide blast killed 131 people at a political rally in Mastung in Balochistan. The PM Office also directed the Ministry of Interior to formally issue a notification for declaration of Sunday as the day of mourning.

However, Balochistan government has announced a two-day mourning in the province over the suicide bombing in Mastung. Balochistan Awami Party has however announced a three-day mourning over the barbaric incident.

On July 13, the convoy of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) candidate from NA-35 Bannu came under attack. Former chief minister Akram Khan Durrani remained safe in the attack. However, four of his supporters were killed.

Same day, a powerful bomb blast hit a meeting of Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) candidate from PB-35 Mastung, Nawabzada Siraj Raisani. The attack left Raisani and130 others dead. On July 11, Taliban claimed responsibility for targeting an election rally in Peshawar city that killed a prominent politician Haroon Bilour and 20 others. The suicide blast also wounded 65 others.
