Need stressed to intensify awareness against drugs

KARACHI: Secretary Excise and Taxation & Narcotics Abdul Haleem Shaikh said on Tuesday that unless all stakeholders, including parents, teachers, students and government departments, work together to eradicate drugs in the society, we can not achieve our targets.

This he said while speaking as the chief guest at an inter-schools tableau competition ceremony at National Museum in Karachi, which was organized by Excise and Taxation & Narcotics Control Department Sindh. He said that the role of the new generation was very important in creating awareness against drugs. He also appreciated the performance and hard work of the teachers and the students who participated in the competition.

Excise and Taxation Narcotics Control Director-General Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui said that the drugs not only destroy the families but are also harmful to the society as a whole. “It is very essential to create awareness against drugs and we all have to work to get this noble cause,” he added. Siddiqui said that the excise department collected seven different taxes and during last fiscal year, it collected Rs 53 billion in term of various taxes and for the current financial year, the target was Rs 62 billion and hopefully, they would get it by the year-end.

Civil Aviation Authority School clinched the first position and Little Angel School secured second while Customs School got the third position in the competition. Aftab Alam and Basir Ahmed Siddiqui performed as judges and Khurrum Jamal was the compere of the program. ANF Bridger Noor-ul-Hasan also attended the program as a special guest and encouraged the participants. In the end, the winners were given away prizes and guests were presented shields as well.
