NICVD organizes certification ceremony

KARACHI: National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) held its first Certification Ceremony of Interventional Cardiology Fellowship Program in a local hotel.

A total of 13 fellows were awarded certificates for successfully completing post-fellowship training in the sub-specialty of interventional cardiology.

Speaker Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Khan Durrani was the Chief Guest.

In his welcome address, Executive Director of NICVD, Prof Nadeem Qamar said by grace of Allah the Almighty, we have achieved this milestone through untiring efforts of our dedicated faculty members and trainees and we have gathered here today to celebrate our collective achievement.

He said that it is a pride and honour for NICVD to conduct its first certification ceremony of Interventional Cardiology fellowship Program. This program focuses at producing skilled doctors, equipped with the highest standards of leadership and management skills as well as ethical practices so that they are able to function as competent and compassionate specialists.

He said that NICVD is one of the leading centers for Post-graduate Training in Adult Cardiology, Paediatric Cardiology, Anaesthesiology, and Cardiac Surgery and Post-fellowship Training in Interventional Cardiology, Electrophysiology and Cardio-thoracic Anaesthesiology. We also offer Post-graduate Diploma in Cardiology. It is a matter of great pride that 44 fellows cleared FCPS and 43 trainees cleared diploma in Cardiology during 2015-2017.

He added that for over half a century, the NICVD has tirelessly endeavoured to excel in cardiovascular patient-care, training and research. With more than 300 highly qualified surgeons, doctors and trainees, we have provided superior services to our patients requiring emergency care, admission and consultation.

He said that today, we are seeing the culmination of this hard work and at this grand ceremony; our 13 fellows have received their certificates. It is a rewarding and proud day for the NICVD. We prepare our residents and fellows for future leadership in academic medicine as clinical specialists.

NICVD is committed to the achievement and maintenance of excellence in medical education and clinical research for the benefit of humanity. He thanked Sindh Government for their endless support and further appreciated the efforts of NICVD team for their endless endeavours.

Syed Nadeem Hassan Rizvi said I find immense pride to celebrate NICVD’s first certification ceremony of Interventional Cardiology Fellowship Program. It is the culmination of the combined efforts of our faculty, staff, parents and most of all our fellows. Our training program has an excellent history and track record of interventional cardiologists with excellent clinical and procedural skills in both coronary interventions.

Congratulating the fellows and their parents, Chief Guest Agha Siraj Durrani said that it is a matter of enormous pride and honour for NICVD to conduct its first ceremony of Interventional Cardiology. I acknowledge the positive impact of systems and processes of NICVD’s Postgraduates program in the areas of healthcare and education not only in Sindh Province but also in all over Pakistan.

He added that NICVD is taking important initiatives in order to keep up with these advancements by upgrading curricula, enhancing skills, improving teaching practices, fostering research and setting high standards in line with the international benchmarks.

The ceremony was attended by more than 500 health and non-clinical professionals from different institutions.
