KARACHI: The Supreme Court has directed the provincial Inspector General of Police (IGP) that no road should be blocked for more than two minutes as per Blue-Book so as to give minimum inconvenience to the public.
In its detailed order of the hearing held on Saturday, the apex court bench headed by the Chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar and comprising Justice Faisal Arab and Justice Sajjad Ali Shah allowed the police to block roads for certain Very Very Important Persons (VVIPs) but ruling that blocking period should not exceed two minutes.
The IGP AD Khowaja had informed the judges that no road had permanently been blocked for any political or state VVIP; however, he said certain people were entitled for traffic blocks as per Blue-Book in view to their security aspects.
“As per Blue-Book, the traffic block should be imposed strictly for not more than two minutes so that minimum inconvenience is caused to the public, as there is a possibility that sick needing emergent travel are struck in long traffic jams and the life of somebody is not put at risk,” the apex court ruled in its order.
