PM opens Lyari Expressway

KARACHI: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Sunday inaugurated the 38-killometer-long north-bound section of Lyari Expressway in Karachi after 15-year-long work.The project comprises 20 bridges and four interchanges. Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Governor Mohammad Zubair were also present on the occasion.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony, the prime minister said that the project faced many hurdles but had been completed finally. He said that PML-N government believes in development of infrastructure in Sindh province. Abbasi congratulated Sindh governor and chief minister for completing the project despite several difficulties.

The project was delayed for more than 15 years due to the lack of federal funding. High court deadline ended on 1st January 2018 too, which was given to complete to the project. Lyari Expressway’s completion was finally announced in January 2018. Abbasi inaugurated the expressway’s north-bound track starting from Mauripur today.

The Lyari Expressway project was launched on 11 May 2002, with the aim to serve as a commuting artery connecting Mauripur Road and the M9 motorway, alleviating the burden of traffic plying on surface routes between to and from Karachi Port.
