Poor man’s 40% body burnt

LARKANA: An unemployed young man tried to commit self-immolation by throwing petrol on his body and setting himself on fire outside the local press club here on Monday.

His 40% body has been burnt and he has been shifted to Burns Ward of the Chandka Medical College Hospital for treatment. A 35-year man, Mohammad Ali Shaikh, father of five daughters, threw petrol on his body and then set himself on fire. The fire engulfed him, but people saved him.

He was rushed to CMCH’s Burns Ward where doctors said the man’s 40% body had been burnt, but they will try to save his precious life. The burnt man told newsmen while lying on bed: “He is unemployed and has five minor daughters.” He said that his wife was pregnant and even then she was washing pots of different houses to earn livelihood, but they cannot have three time food. He said that his poor family was staying in a rented house in Shah Baharo Colony of Larkana.

Shaikh in extremely emotional tone said that if they are paying rent then they cannot have food and his daughters have to sleep in hunger. He said previously he was working as labourer at Sabzi Mandi but one day, a huge gunny bag fell on his leg due to which it was broken. He said after operation, he was now unfit even for labour work. He said: “When my brothers are not helping me how can others extend their hands.”
