Province-wide drive: Tree plantation conducted in Bahman Forest

LARKANA:As part of province-wide tree plantation drive launched today, Sindh Forests and Wildlife Secretary Abdul Rahim Soomro, accompanied by Divisional Forest Officer Arshad Haider Kamario, planted saplings at Bahman Forest near Larkana on Sunday.

Talking to media on this occasion, they said that today in Larkana as many as 5000 tree saplings had been planted on the directives of Prime Minister Imran Khan and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah. They said a stall had been established in front of press club where free saplings would be given to the citizens along with awareness about the importance of trees in the world.

They said: “If Pakistan does not do anything to reduce environmental pollution, then climate change will badly affect our country and hot weather will increase. Due to unavailability of trees, hotness is increasing day by day.” They claimed that the forest department had undertaken steps to make Larkana green.

They appealed to all residents to plant more and more trees in their vicinity and everywhere to save environment. It must be mentioned here that during construction of Larkana-Sukkur road, long rows of Eucalyptus trees were cut off without any cogent reason which had badly affected the atmosphere here.

“The trees which were standing on both sides of Dadu and Rice Canals were also chopped off, but no inquiry had so far been made to remove the responsible. The citizens of Larkana have demanded a thorough probe into the massive cutting of trees and deforestation,” they concluded.
