Rally staged for restoration of student unions in Sindh

NAWABSHAH:Sindh Students Council (SSC) on Wednesday took out a rally from Boys Degree College to Nawabshah Press Club for the restoration of student unions across Sindh.

A group of students belonging to various universities, including Quaid-e-Awam University of Engineering, Science and Technology (QUEST), Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Veterinary University Sakrand (SBBVUS), Shaheed Benazir Bhutto General University and Degree College Nawabshah, also held demonstration outside the press club. They were led by SSC Organiser Aamir Umrani, Asees Laghari and Nasir Shah. The protesters, carrying banners and placards, shouted slogans for the restoration of student unions.

Speaking on the occasion, Aamir Umrani said that restoration of the student unions in Sindh province was the fundamental political right of students throughout which they could resolve their problems.

‘’Lawmakers and politicians have only been arguing on the restoration of students union since 1984, but no effective measurement could be taken so far to lift the ban on student unions,’’ he said. He asked the Sindh and federal governments to take effective steps for the restoration of the student unions.

Asees Laghari said SSC was formed to struggle for the restoration of the student unions and it will continue to struggle until the student unions’ restoration. Nasir Shah also criticized the government for not taking measures for the restoration of the student unions and demanded immediate restoration of the students unions.
