Roads should not be blocked for hours due to VIP movement: CJP

KARACHI: The Supreme Court on Saturday directed the provincial inspector general to ensure that no road be closed for more than two minutes for VIP movement.

Hearing the suo moto case pertaining to road closure owing to VIP movement, the bench headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar asked the provincial police chief as to why the roads were blocked in the city. Justice Faisal Arab and Justice Sajjad Ali Shah were other members of the bench that was hearing the case at its Karachi registry.

During the hearing, the CJP asked AD Khawaja why the roads were blocked for VIPs very often. The same practice was done temporarily for few minutes on which Justice Nisar said, “I am a VIP too but I never asked for provision of VIP protocol.

Earlier on the day, the CJP visited the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah without VIP protocol.
