SC seeks reply from Sindh govt in makeshift school case

ISLAMABAD: Taking notice of the Sindh government’s alleged warning to a Non-Governmental Organization, Ocean Welfare Organization (OWO), to shut down its makeshift school being run under a flyover in Clifton, the Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday sought comments from the provincial government in this regard.

As per reports, the Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar took the notice of the matter and put Sindh chief secretary, education secretary, advocate general and NGO President Anfas Ali Shah, fixing the matter for hearing at SC’s Karachi registry on Feb 17.

The NGO, which has been running a makeshift school for around 2,000 street children under a flyover in Clifton near the Abdullah Shah Ghazi shrine, had alleged that the provincial government had asked it to shut the school down or hand it over to the Sindh Education Foundation (SEF) with children.

On the other hand, the SEF denied the NGO’s claim and said that it had only requested the NGO to become a partner for streamlining the education of street children roaming mainly in the city.
