KARACHI: The Supreme Court Bar Association’s (SCBA) on Thursday demanded that number of judges should be increased in Sindh so as to dispose of the cases on time and to resolve the court-related issues.
Addressing a press conference at Supreme Court’s Karachi registry, SCBA’s Sindh Seat vice president Fareed Ahmed Dayo said that there are only 33 judges serving in the province against the sanctioned strength of 40. “The judges’ strength should be increased to 70 for early disposal of cases, he said.
Dayo said that the judges were appointed on contract basis in Anti-Terrorism Courts, demanding that the session’s judges should be appointed permanently on the same slots. He said the competent lawyers were being neglected when it comes for judges’ appointments.
Dayo also demanded of the Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to resolve their housing society’s issue, saying that millions of rupees have been paid but their housing society was not registered.
Speaking on the occasion, SCBA’s former president Yaseen Azad said that the Supreme Court’s judgments were being debated all over the media, adding that the practice was not wrong but honorable judges should not be criticized. He said that no politician could be saved, if they are tested on the touchstone of r Articles 62 and 63 of the constitution of Pakistan. Referring the recent sit-inn, he said that this culture should come to an end as it paralyzes the government.
