MULTAN: The death toll from seasonal influenza climbed to 44 people in Multan on Tuesday as three more patients lost their lives. The new victims were two women and a man, who were under-treatment at Multan’s Nishtar Hospital. The disease has played havoc within two months.
The deceased belonged to Multan, Layyah and Khanewal cities of Punjab province. Doctors have advised the people to take precautionary measures and get immediate treatment from the hospitals to tackle the disease timely.
Earlier, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz had moved a resolution in Punjab Assembly, stating that Multan’s people had badly been affected by the disease. There are also reports about some cases from Lahore, Islamabad, and Muzaffargarh.
On Saturday, two patients of seasonal influenza H1N1 died at Nishtar Hospital Multan. Dr. Saddam is the sixth doctor to have been infected with the virus out of whom three were from Nishtar Hospital. He was confirmed as H1N1 patient a couple days back, media reported.
Seasonal influenza is an acute viral infection that spreads easily from person to person. Seasonal influenza viruses circulate worldwide and can affect people in any age group. It is a serious public health problem that causes severe illness and death in high-risk populations.
