Sepco chief says many consumers prefer power theft

LARKANA: Chief Executive Officer, SEPCO, Saeed Ahmed Dawach has said that this company was established in 2010 but the majority of electricity consumers is not cooperating with it.

He was speaking at a ceremony here on Thursday.

He said Sepco is the only power company of upper Sindh where consumers are not willing to install meters in their houses and shops, rather they are offering illegal gratification for removal of existing electricity connections so that they may be able to steal electricity.

He said an operation will soon be initiated against the blacksheep in Sepco and WAPDA. He said all those found involved in theft of electricity will be dealt strictly as per law.

He said accountability of Sepco employees will also take place and nobody will be spared in this regard.

Commissioner Muhammad Abbas Baloch said that he, himself, is member of Sepco Board of Directors, adding that during meetings he feels sorry when they are told about malpractices of Sepco employees and the consumers.

He said due to rampant electricity theft 12 to 16 hours electricity load shedding is being made in villages and towns of Larkana division due to which people are facing serious hardships.

WAPDA Labour Union President Abdul Latif Nizamani said that Sepco is continuously facing deficit and this company is on top of the list of line losses in the entire country and lowest in recovery.

Superintending Engineer, Larkana Circle, Mola Dad Niazi, Ahmed Saeed Solangi, Nisar Shaikh and others also spoke.
