KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday acquitted an accused, who was sentenced for collective 24 years in imprisonment in explosives substance and illicit weapon case.
The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) had awarded 24-year term to Ali Raza on the charges possessing hand grenades and weapon without license in 2004. According to the prosecution, the suspect was arrested by the law enforcers near Manghopir, Gutter Baghicha.
The convict though his counsel challenged the punishment awarded by the trial court and submitted that the prosecution had failed to submit any concrete evidence against him.
The defence counsel told the judges that the ATC did not follow due procedure while convicting Ibrahim. The court was requested to set-aside the judgment of the trial court and to order the release of the convict.
After hearing the arguments from both sides, the SHC bench set aside the punishment and ruled that the convict should be released if not arrested in any other case.
