KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday directed police to adopt modern technology to trace whereabouts of 13 children who went missing on different occasions.
A division bench was hearing a petition filed way back in 2012, seeking court directives to the Sindh police for considering the missing children cases a cognisable offence and registering FIRs in this regard.
The petition was instituted by a non-governmental organisation (NGO) Roshni Research and Development Welfare, stating that cases of missing children were not properly investigated as a result many children lost their lives.
Earlier, the inspector general police had submitted a report and informed the court that six out of 19 children had been recovered; however the law enforcers were still clueless about remaining children.
Directing the police make use of modern technology, the bench put off the hearing. During the last six years, the SHC had time and again directed the provincial government and police to take measures for the recovery of missing children.
