SHC directs police to take action against Gutka mafia

KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday directed police officials to ensure implementation of ban on Gutka and carry out operation against its dealers.

SHC issued orders after it heard the petition filed by a citizen, Muzamil Mumtaz, seeking proscribing Gutka.

The Court also sought report from District Malir and Korangi Police regarding complete ban on use of Gutka and intoxicating materials.

Honorable court also remarked that it would summon Inspector General of Police (IGP) and DIG, if ban on selling and purchasing of Gutka is not being implemented.

SHC expressed annoyance on Police for submitting old reports and remarked that you brought one year old report, what achievement was made during one year.

Court sought complete report of proscribe on Gutka and other intoxicating materials by 13th November.

Petitioner told the court that former Station House Officer (SHC) Awami Colony Nasir Mehmood used to support the Gutka mafia in the area, and he was suspended due to this.

He stated that business of Gutka has been continuing in district Malir and Korangi under patronage of policemen.

The court, later, adjourned the hearing till 19th November.
