SHC upholds life imprisonment in kidnapping case

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday upheld the life imprisonment awarded to a man by the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in kidnapping for ransom case.

The ATC had sentenced Ali Jaan to life imprisonment in 2014 after he was found guilty of kidnapping two real brothers and demanding ransom for their safe release in 2011.

Ali through his counsel challenged his punishment in the high court and requested it to set aside the judgment of the trial court and to pass his release order.

The defence counsel told the judges that the ATC did not follow due procedure while convicting Ali. The court was requested to set-aside the judgment of the trial court and to order the release of the convict.

After hearing the arguments from both sides, the SHC bench rejected the plea and ruled that the convict would complete his term. The court ruled that it did not find any reason to set-aside the appellant’s term.
