Sindh Healthcare Commission to be introduced this month

KARACHI: Long-awaited Sindh Healthcare Commission would be launched by the end of January 2018 and registration of healthcare hospitals would be started all over the province after the functioning of this regulatory authority.

Sindh Healthcare Commission’s Chairman Prof Dr Tipu Sultan told PPI that the Commission was being launched in Sindh province by the end of the January. It is a regulatory authority constituted by Sindh Health Department to register and monitor public & private hospitals and eliminate quackery in the province.

He said the aim of introducing the Commission was to provide quality healthcare facilities to residents of Sindh province and get rid of quackery. He said all private hospitals, clinics, maternity homes, blood banks and laboratories would be registered across the province soon.

He said Sindh the Commission’s office was established at Doctors’ Plaza, near Teen Talwar area of Clifton where seven directors and chief executive officers (CEO) of Commission, were currently sitting on regular basis to finalize the arrangements to launch the commission.

Prof Sultan said that the Sindh government had released a Rs100 million seed money for the commission and hiring of 65 employees for its Secretariat would begin very soon.

He said a total of 135 employees would be recruited to run the Secretariat’s affairs. He said officials like directors, deputy directors, assistant directors, health inspectors and others staff would be hired to run the affairs smoothly.

Earlier, Sindh Assembly had passed the Sindh Healthcare Commission Bill into law on 24th February 2014 and the governor Sindh had accorded assent to it on 19th March 2014. The bill was aimed to improve healthcare quality, protecting patients’ rights, doctors’ safety at healthcares, monitoring of public and private hospitals and ending practice of quackery in the medical field that plays with the life of patients.
