Social media campaign affecting polio drive, says Pechuho

KARACHI: Secretary Health Sindh Dr Fazalullah Pechuho has said social media campaign against life-saving vaccination by connecting deaths of children in Nawabshah is negatively impacting the ongoing anti-polio drive.

Addressing a press conference at Sindh Secretariat, he said unfortunate incident of the death of four children occurred in Nawabshah due to the not maintaining cold chain of vaccine as per standard operating procedure (SOPs) and using same syringe by administrative vaccine.

He said whole incident happened owing to human error and social media campaigns against vaccine-preventable diseases are condemnable. He social media campaign is negatively affecting the ongoing polio -drive.

He said eight health officials had been suspended over their criminal negligence and not following the SOPs.

Pechuho said actions would be taken doctors who carelessly tackled the situation when children affected with measles vaccine were brought to a hospital of Nawabshah for treatment.

It was pertinent to mention here that four children died from vaccine reaction or human error while six other were also faced severe illness in unfortunate incident occurred in Nawabshah two weeks ago.
