Sports: Cricket: Multan overpowers Karachi in National Disabled T20 first phase final

Karachi: Defending champion Multan overpowered Karachi recording a convincing four-wicket triumph in the final of the first phase of the 6th National Disabled T20 Cricket Championship here at RLCA Ground in Gulberg.

Karachi batted first in the match and posted 151-2 in 20 overs. Rao Javed batted well for the side scoring 60 runs off 50 balls with the help of six fours. Muhammad Zeeshan made 31 off 32 balls with the help of four boundaries. Ahmed Raza contributed 17 runs. Left arm pacer Muhammad Haris and off spinner Jahanzaib Tiwana captured two wickets each.

In reply, Multan reached the target in 19.3 overs with four wickets in hand. Opener Majid Hussain scored 57 runs off 43 balls with the help of four boundaries and two sixes. Imran Ali made 23 runs off 16 balls while Jahanzaib Tiwana scored 22 runs off 15 balls. Off-spinner Muhammad Zeeshan captured three wickets.

Meanwhile, another eight teams will play in the second phase of the national tournament in mid February in Rawalpindi and Islamabad. The winner of the second phase final will meet the winner of the first phase, Multan.

“We are planning to host the grand final here at National Stadium in March, hopefully before Pakistan Super League (PSL) final,” PDCA Media Manager Mohammad Nizam told PPI.

He added that PDCA was also planning to broadcast the final live. “It would also serve as a rehearsal for the PSL final at the venue.”

Renovation work is underway at National Stadium, which is scheduled to host high profile PSL final on March 25.
