Sukkur building collapse death toll rises to nine as two more found dead

SUKKUR:The death toll from Sukkur building collapse rose to nine as two more people, including a man and a woman, were found dead from the rubble on Sunday.

Today, local authorities continued rescue operation and informed that they recovered the bodies of the man, Talat Hussain and the woman, Wardar, wife of Nasir Ali, from the debris of the collapsed four-storey building near Station Road and Ghanta Ghar area. The number of injured people also rose to 18.

Pakistan Army, Rangers, police and others conducted operation with heavy machinery to lift the debris from the site and recovered victims. Rescue teams faced difficulties after the building collapse caused a power blackout in the area.

In the initial rescue operation, three people, including an infant, were recovered dead and 12 other were injured after a four-storey building collapsed in Sukkur city. As operation progressed, the number of dead has reached nine and injured 18.

The bodies and injured were rushed to Civil Hospital Sukkur for medico-legal formalities and treatment. Three families were living in the building, rescue sources said. There was hue and cry after the incident in the area.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took notice of the incident and sought a report from the Sukkur commissioner.

The rescue workers were facing hardships due to darkness as the affected area plunged into darkness after electric wires cut off due to building collapse in the city’s Station Road area.
