Survey:53% say they are dissatisfied with how democracy works in Pakistan)

Islamabad: According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup & Gilani Pakistan, majority of urban Pakistanis say they are dissatisfied with how democracy works in Pakistan.

Dissatisfaction is lower in rural areas where only a minority is dissatisfied.

A nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces was asked, “How satisfied are you with the way democracy is working in Pakistan — very satisfied, somewhat satisfied, not too satisfied or not at all satisfied?”

In response to this question, 18% said very satisfied, 36% said somewhat satisfied, 31% said not too satisfied and 14% said not satisfied at all. 1% did not know or wish to respond.

In urban areas, 8% said very satisfied, 36% said somewhat satisfied, 37% said not too satisfied and 16% said not satisfied at all. 3% did not know or wish to respond.

In rural areas, 22% said very satisfied, 36% said somewhat satisfied, 29% said not too satisfied and 12% said not satisfied at all. 1% did not know or wish to respond.

Comparing the two regions, 14% more rural than urban Pakistanis are satisfied with the way democracy is working in Pakistan.

The study was released by Gilani Research Foundation and carried out by Gallup & Gilani Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International.

The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 1719 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, January 21 –January 27, 2018. Error margin is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
