UK Great Debate Competition’ at SSUET

KARACHI: The British High Commission’s fifth annual Great debate competition continued with the final regional round at the Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET) in Karachi. The chief guest on the occasion was British Deputy High Commissioner Karachi and Trade Director for Pakistan, Mike Nithavrianakis. The great debate competition was started in December 2019 and will continue till March 2020 in six cities across Pakistan.

The regional round in Karachi followed previous rounds in Lahore, Quetta, Peshawar, Faisalabad and Islamabad. The competition featured 29 students from universities across Karachi.

Speaking on the auspicious occasion, British Deputy High Commissioner Karachi and Trade Director for Pakistan, Mike Nithavrianakis appreciated the participants, “Speakers were so eloquent in arguments. UK has trade relationship with Pakistan, which is the good one. UK is one of the largest investors in Pakistan and top biggest nation for Pakistani exports.”

Vice Chancellor SSUET, Prof. Dr. Vali Uddin welcomed the chief guest British Deputy High Commissioner Karachi and Trade Director for Pakistan, Mike Nithavrianakis and recommended to continue organizing such events to promote healthy activities in Pakistan.

At the end of an intense competition, Hafsah Tahir from Karachi University and Muhammad Shahzaib Khan from the Tabani School of Accountancy were declared the Winner and Runner-Up respectively. The prize for the GREAT Debate competition is the British High Commission Scholarship. The winner will get a PKR 100,000 grant towards their semester fee and the runner up will get a PKR 50,000 grant towards their semester fee.
