Update: Policemen among 31 martyred in Quetta suicide blast

QUETTA: At least 31 people, including four policemen were martyred and several others injured in a suicide attack outside a polling station near Eastern Bypass in Quetta on Wednesday.

Rescue officials said the suicide bomber blew himself up when police and FC personnel stopped him from entering the station. As a result, 24 people, including three policeman and two children were killed on the spot, while 30 others sustained injuries.

Soon after the blast security forces reached the scene and cordoned off the area to gather evidence. The bomb disposal squad has also called the site of the attack. The blast also damaged police vehicles parked near the polling station for security.

Police sources said that it was a suicide attack and the bomber wanted to cross into the polling stations for more damages.

However, DIG Quetta Abdul Razzaq Cheema, who was also present at the site when the explosion occurred, remained safe.

The injured were shifted to Sandeman Provincial Hospital for treatment, while emergency has been also declared in the hospitals.
