Who is threatening NAB chairman, asks JI amir

Islamabad:Ameer, Jamaat e Islami, Pakistan, Senator Sirajul Haq, has exhorted the NAB Chairman to disclose the names of those who were threatening him.

Talking to the media outside the parliament, he said this was a serious matter. He said the masses wanted to know who was giving threats to the NAB chief. He said the silence of the government in this regard was also surprising.

Sirajul Haq reiterated his earlier suggestion that the appointment of the NAB Chairman should be made by the Chief Justice of Pakistan in consultation with the Chief Justices of the provincial Courts.

He said that from the very beginning, the JI had demanded that the NAB should be completely impartial. However, he said, the NAB itself had made itself controversial. He said that so far, NAB had not prepared any mechanism for retrieving billions of dollars owned by the Pakistanis lying in banks abroad.

Similarly, he said, the files of 150 mega corruption scandals lying with the NAB had not been touched so far. Had the accountability been impartial, the 436 plunderers named in the Panama leaks would not be freely moving around.

The JI chief said the past governments had been facilitating the criminals in whitening their black money through amnesty schemes and the present government which had promised relief to the poor masses, was also benefitting the wealthy criminals. .

Referring to the high flight of the dollar, Sirajul Haq said that the elements responsible for this phenomenon could not be the well-wishers of the country and the nation.

He said that the value of the Pak rupees was the lowest in South Asia and the currencies of Afghanistan, Bangladesh and even Maldives were higher. He said that the government seemed to be totally helpless in this situation.
