Thirteen faculty members of Sardar Bahadur Khan Women University (SBKWU), including two Assistant Professors, have not rejoined the university after completing their PhD studies abroad, despite being bound by institutional requirements, official sources confirmed today.
The faculty members had been nominated by the university for advanced academic programs in the United States, Sweden, Germany, and Canada. Upon completing their doctoral degrees, they were expected to resume their duties at SBKWU; however, they have failed to fulfill this obligation, according to reports.
‘The university invested heavily in these faculty members, anticipating their return to contribute to academia and uplift the institution’s standards. Unfortunately, this has not happened,’ said an official familiar with the matter, requesting anonymity.
Such instances have raised concerns about the accountability of faculty sent for higher education under institutional agreements. University authorities are reportedly considering measures to address the situation, including reviewing policies for nominating candidates for international scholarships.
SBKWU, which primarily caters to women’s education in Balochistan, relies on qualified faculty to maintain and enhance its academic offerings. The non-return of these scholars has left significant gaps in teaching and research capacities, posing challenges for the university.
Educationists have stressed the need for stronger binding agreements and incentives to ensure faculty return to serve their institutions. Meanwhile, students and stakeholders have called for immediate steps to address the shortfall in teaching staff. The university administration has yet to release an official statement on the matter.
