The Government of Punjab has launched a fast-track project for the construction of 1,362 modern bus shelters in 19 districts, with Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif setting a completion target of 45 to 60 days to improve the travel experience for citizens.

The decision was made on Saturday in a meeting chaired by the Chief Minister after the selection of the final design, to provide dignified and comfortable waiting areas for the public.

Emphasizing the importance of the project, Ms. Sharif said, “The elderly, mothers, and other citizens cannot bear to wait in the sun or extreme cold.”

Work on this project is proceeding rapidly, where the construction of 588 shelters has already begun. Additionally, tenders have been issued for the procurement and installation of the remaining 774 passenger facilities.

The Chief Minister described the initiative as part of the first “revolutionary era of public transport” for the districts of Punjab.

It was stated that the new constructions are intended to have a durable and modern design. Ms. Sharif said, “Beautiful and modern bus shelters will not only provide convenience but will also enhance the beauty of the cities.”
