LARKANA: As many as 1106 patients visited Chandka Children Hospital OPD here on Wednesday despite heavy rainfall in morning shift only and most of them were Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from different talukas of Larkana Division.

This was disclosed by Dr. Hassan Chandio, Additional Medical Superintendent, Children Hospital, Chandka Medical College Hospital, Larkana, while talking to this scribe on Wednesday. He said as many as 80 suspected children were tested for Malaria out of which 18 child patients were detected MP positive as suffering from Malaria which comes to 22.5% and 50% had diarrhea (severely dehydrated) which means gastro was already existing in the division but now malaria cases are also emerging fast among the rain affectees as the relevant authorities have done nothing to prevent outbreak of such diseases after the flash flood in rural Sindh.

It must be mentioned here that the basic job of a District Health Officer (DHO) is to prevent the spread of various diseases but all the DHOs are comfortably sitting in their air-conditioned offices ignoring their primary and fundamental duties. No fumigation spray has so far been carried out which has multiplied the problems for the citizens.
