Anti-corruption team raids UC Bella Wah office, seizes record

KARACHI:In an operation under the direction of Provincial Minister for Anti-Corruption Establishment Sindh Jam Ikramullah Dharijo, Circle Officer Naushahro Feroze Qazi Sharafuddin, along with his team, raided UC Bella Wah Taluka Bharya Padaidan and seized relevant record. The raid was carried out over alleged misappropriation of government funds, which was reported by Vice Chairman and members of UC. Civil Judge and Judicial Magistrate Muhammad Zubair were also present on the occasion. The anti-corruption team Naushahro Feroze seized the relevant record and started investigation. SHC orders Sindh govt to submit reply in under trial cases

KARACHI:Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday gave the Sindh government more time to submit its reply on a plea regarding delays in under-trial cases. A two-member bench of SHC directed the provincial government to submit its response by next hearing on November 17. A state counsel appeared before the court and sought more time to comply with its order, which was granted. The petitioner stated that prisoners in multiple under-trial cases instituted before 2010 have already served half the sentences even without conclusion of their trial. He said the province’s prisons house more inmates than they are allowed to keep as per their sanctioned capacity. Baldia factory arson case: Conviction challenge in SHC

KARACHI:Two MQM workers, Zubair alias Charya and Abdul Rehman alias Bhola, on Wednesday moved appeals in Sindh High Court (SHC), challenging their conviction in the high-profile Baldia factory fire case. The two convicts, who were sentenced to death by an anti-terrorism court (ATC) on September 22, filed the appeals through their lawyers, pleaded the court to strike down their conviction. The appellants stated in their pleas that the ATC ignored key evidence while deciding the case. SHC asks KMC to resolve grievances of city wardens

Karachi:Sindh High Court (SHC) here gave the time of four weeks to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) in contempt case regarding to a constitutional petition of city wardens. A two-member bench of SHC comprising Justice Nadeem Akhter and Justice Mehmood A Khan, heard a contempt of court petition (1788/2019) of Pasban Democratic Party against non-implementation of the verdict of the SHC of March 11, 2020 in favor of the city wardens. SBP introduces incentive and penalty mechanism for banks to promote housing and construction financing

Karachi:Building upon its earlier measure of setting mandatory target for banks to extend mortgage loans and financing for developers and builders, State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has introduced a mechanism to incentivize meeting these targets. The mechanism also penalizes the banks for any shortfall in meeting the target. According to this mechanism, commencing from December 31, 2020, banks will find an incentive of maintaining reduced Cash Reserve Requirement (CRR) with SBP, in the next quarter, in case they achieve or exceed the target of financing for housing and construction of buildings set for the quarter.
