Political Jirga to resolve NW’s law and order issues

ISLAMABAD: In order to restore law and order situation, the federal government has formed a 16-member Jirga to hold dialogues with the parties in Swat, Miranshah and Mir Ali areas of North Waziristan. The Jirga comprises representatives of the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP), Awami National Party (ANP), Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and National Democratic Movement (NDM) will hold first meeting on Friday. In view of the deteriorating law and order situation, all the political parties of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will represent the jirga set up by the federal government to negotiate with the parties. The first meeting will be held on Friday at Durrani House Bannu.

Commissioner Quetta inspects new cancer hospital

QUETTA: Commissioner Quetta Division, Suhail-ur-Rehman, has said, “In order to stamp out cancer disease, we all will have to work sincerely.” These views were expressed by him during inspection of newly constructed 160-bedded cancer hospital, Quetta here on Thursday. Directing the concerned authorities to expedite construction work of the hospital, he said that no negligence would be tolerated in the development work. He added, “In order to stamp out cancer disease, we all will have to work sincerely." On the occasion, Additional Commissioner, Quetta, Dr. Yasir Bazai, Deputy Commissioner, Quetta, Shahak Baloch, Nur Bakhsh Bizenjo and others were also present.

NEPRA raises KE power tariff by Rs11.10 per unit

KARACHI: The National Electric Power Regulation Authority (NEPRA) Thursday approved the demand of the K-Electric to increase electricity prices by Rs11.10 per unit for the Karachiites. The NEPRA has increased the cost of electricity in the context of monthly Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA). The authority issued a notification of increased power tariff on Thursday. As per the notification, the FCA for June will be collected from customers in 2 months. As per the notification of NEPRA, in August, customers will be charged Rs3.01 per unit and consumers to be charged Rs8.09 in September. The NEPRA notification also said that this increase will be applicable only for August and September bills and all the consumers of the K-Electric except Lifeline customers will pay it.

Medical insurance of lawyers a major initiative: Wahab

KARACHI: Administrator Karachi, CM Law Adviser and Sindh Government Spokesman Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Thursday said that the medical insurance of the Sindh Bar Council registered lawyers is a major initiative of the Sindh Government which will benefit the lawyers community. "The Sindh government believes in the welfare of the people associated with the law sector and all possible steps will be taken for their well-being," the Administrator said this while addressing a meeting held with Advocate General Sindh Muhammad Hasan Akbar and Secretary High Court Bar Association Muhammad Umar Soomro. Probe ordered into corruption in uplift schemes

QUETTA: Government of Balochistan has ordered to conduct a fact finding inquiry regarding irregularities and financial embezzlement in execution of development schemes at Balochistan Secretariat Employees’ Cooperative Society.
