ECP finalizes arrangements to hold NA-245 by-polls tomorrow

ISLAMABAD: Arrangements have been finalized to hold by-poll on the National Assembly constituency NA-245 in Karachi tomorrow (Sunday). The seat fallen vacant due to the death of PTI MNA Dr Aamir Liaquat Hussain. A total 263 polling stations have been set up by the election commission for the by-election, of which 60 polling stations have been declared Sensitive and 203 most Sensitive. Seventeen candidates are taking part in the by-poll. Strict security plan has been chalked out to maintain law and order on the polling day.

Govt issues SRO to reverse ban on imports of luxury items to meet Int’l obligations: Miftah

ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Miftah Ismail has said the government has issued an SRO (Statutory Regulatory Order) to reverse the ban on imports of luxury items to meet international obligations. In his tweets on Saturday, he said the goods struck at the ports will gradually be released with penalty surcharge of up to one hundred percent of assessed value. The Finance Minister said Tariff Policy Board will soon come up with new Regulatory Duty rates that will ensure that our limited foreign exchange is spent on essential items and not on these items that we have unbanned. He said we must live within our means.

Minorities enjoy equal rights in Pakistan: Punjab Governor

ISLAMABAD: Punjab Governor Muhammad Baligh-ur-Rehman has said minorities are enjoying equal rights in Pakistan. Talking to the Ambassador of Norway to Pakistan, Albert Ilsaas in Lahore on Saturday, he said Pakistani women are also working side by side with men in every sector and the government has established universities for their empowerment. Talking about bilateral relationship between the two countries, the Governor emphasized on the need to increase Pakistani exports to Norway in different sectors, including textile.

PAF releases documentary to pay tribute to Rashid Minhas on 51st martyrdom anniversary

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Air Force (PAF) has released a short documentary on the 51st martyrdom anniversary of Pilot Officer Rashid Minhas Shaheed to pay homage to the country's valiant son and the youngest recipient of Nishan-e-Haider. On 20th August, Rashid Minhas vanquished the iniquitous intentions of his instructor pilot Flight Lieutenant Mati ur Rehman who tried to hijack his training jet T-33 towards India. Rashid battled to take back the controls of the aircraft and finally preferred to crash the plane before it could cross the border. The brave son of soil accepted to sacrifice his life but did not allow the country's dignity to be tarnished.
