PM Shehbaz reviews relief in flood-hit Jaffarabad

Jaffarabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reached Haji Alla Dino village of Jaffarabad district in Balochistan today (Sunday) to review the relief and rescue efforts in the wake of heavy floods and rains. The premier will visit the flood-affected Haji Allah Dino village in Jaffarabad and monitor the relief efforts. Balochistan's chief secretary and PDMA director general briefed the prime minister about the relief provided to the flood-affected people and the restoration of the infrastructure. PM Shehbaz will meet the people affected by the floods and interact with them in order to get a true picture of the devastation and also to know whether they got relief assistance. Death toll from Covid in Pakistan jumps to 30,574

KARACHI: Pakistan has reported three deaths in the last 24 hours by novel coronavirus as the number of confirmed positive cases has surged to 1,568,453. The nationwide tally of fatalities has jumped to 30,574 on Sunday. According to the latest figures by the National Institute of Health (NIH), at least 270 persons were tested positive for COVID-19 across the country in the past 24 hours. Pakistan has conducted 16,871 tests in the past 24 hours. The COVID Positivity Ratio was recorded at 1.6 percent while 118 people are still in critical care.

Sindh, Punjab highways reopened for traffic

KARACHI: All national highways in the north and south Punjab have been restored and all the thoroughfares in Sindh are open for traffic, said National Highway Authority spokesperson on Sunday. He says that Balochistan’s National Highway M8 and N65 are still closed due to floods. The National Highway M8 Khuzdar is closed from Qabool Saeed Khan Section. Quetta, Sibi and Dera Allahyar Highway N65 is closed for all traffic, he adds. The spokesperson has further said that National Highway N35 and S1 in Gilgit-Baltistan are open for every kind of traffic. He says the National Highway N140 Gilgit-Shandur has been opened for traffic at five points but it remains closed at three points. Landlord submerges town to save his lands

Tangwani: An influential landlord redirected the water flow from a swollen canal in Tangwani town of Sindh just to save his lands from any harm, it emerged on Sunday. The canal was breached from near Mahrab Dahani petrol pump by the landlord, risking the lives of the local population who blamed influential people for the tragedy the city was facing now. Resultantly, the water wreaked havoc in Tangwani by submerging most of the city, panicking locals who started moving to higher and safer places. The water also submerged nearby areas of Malok Dahali, Mehmud Khan Nandwali, Muhammad Mureed and Thaghman Bajakani. On the other hand, the city administration has failed to carry out repairing of the damaged canal.
