WB, CM discuss $163.8m funds repurposed for flood emergency works

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and World Bank high-power delegation led by Regional Director John Roome discussed $163.8 million funds repurposed for flood emergency works and reviewed their progress. The meeting was attended by provincial ministers, the chief secretary, the chairman P and D and concerned secretaries. The world bank delegation members include Abedalrazaq Khalil, Kamran Akbar, Zishan Karim, Mr Francois Onimous, Mr Olivier, and others. World population reaches 8 billion, Pakistan is home to almost 3% of it

ISLAMABAD: The world’s population has reached 8 billion. Half of the people that made up the increase from 7 billion in 2011 to 8 billion now are from Asia. Growing at an average annual rate of 1.9 percent, Pakistan is home to almost 3 percent of the world's population. Nearly 3.6 children are born to a woman on average in the country. According to a report by UN Information Centre Islamabad, Pakistan is among the eight countries where more than half of the increase in global population leading up to 2050 will be concentrated. These countries include the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Nigeria, the Philippines, and the United Republic of Tanzania. Minister asks PM to take notice of news about gas load shedding to Sindh industries

KARACHI: Provincial Minister for Industries, Commerce and Cooperative Department Jam Ikramullah Dharejo Monday expressed concern over the news of gas load shedding to industrial and domestic consumers of Sindh. He requested the Prime Minister of Pakistan to take notice of the gas load shedding news in Sindh province, he said in his statement. The minister said: "Sindh province is the most gas producing province in Pakistan. Gas load-shedding will send a blow to industrial activities in Sindh province.
