Mobilink Microfinance Bank, UMBL sign MoU for housing finance

ISLAMABAD: Mobilink Microfinance Bank Limited (MMBL) and U Microfinance Bank Limited (UMBL) have entered into a strategic partnership for providing housing finance facility for their employees. An MoU was signed between Ghazanfar Azzam, President and CEO MMBL and Kabeer Naqvi, President and CEO UMBL at a ceremony held in Islamabad, according to a statement issued on Friday. Under this partnership, UMBL and MMBL employees can seek housing finance from each other. Eligible employees would have the opportunity to access affordable housing finance of up to Rs3 million to purchase a new house, flat, apartment, or plot for construction, as well as to construct a house on a pre-owned plot or add an extension to an existing housing unit. SHC orders immediate LG polls in Karachi, Hyderabad

KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) Friday ordered the provincial government to hold local government elections in Karachi and Hyderabad immediately. The court also directed the Sindh government and the provincial IG police to make arrangements for providing security during polls. The court also ordered the provincial government to immediately release the poll schedule. In August, the PTI and JI filed petitions in the SHC after the ECP had postponed for the second time the local government elections scheduled to be held in Karachi and Hyderabad divisions on Aug 28. Four killed, one injured in armed attack near Kharan

KHARAN: Armed men gunned down four persons and injured other near Kharan Dairy Farm, police said Friday. According to the police, unknown armed men entered the house of Sheikh Saleem Ahmad near Kharan city late in the night and shot dead four persons and left other injured. The armed men fled to unknown destination after swift operation. The two deceased were identified as Sheikh Saleem Ahmad and Seet Islam. The injured was identified as Dashad. The bodies and injured were shifted to Kharan Civil Hospital for medico-legal formalities and treatment, respectively. Panic gripped the area soon after the incident. The police have started search for the killers. The heirs have demanded of the authorities to arrest the killers and provide justice.

30 Afghan faculty members meet HEC chairman

ISLAMABAD: Chairman HEC Dr Mukhtar Ahmad held an interactive session with 30 Afghan faculty members who are attending a three-week capacity building programme at the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) under HEC Afghan Project.
