Decision on top military positions taken as per law, constitution: Kh Asif

ISLAMABAD: Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has said the decision regarding top level appointments in Pakistan Army has been taken as per the law and constitution. Talking to the media persons here in Islamabad on Thursday, he said seniority has been observed in the appointments. The Minister said a summary regarding the appointments to the top posts has been sent to President Dr. Arif Alvi, expressing the confidence that he will endorse the Prime Minister's advice in accordance with the law and constitution. He hoped that the said appointments would not be viewed politically.

Pakistan, Canada enjoy strong relationship encompassing various fields: Envoy

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Canada Zaheer Janjua has said Pakistan and Canada enjoy a strong multidimensional relationship encompassing various fields and areas of mutual cooperation. According to a Radio Pakistan’s report, the envoy said this while talking to the Speaker of the Senate of Canada George Furey in Ottawa. The High Commissioner thanked the Canadian Speaker for his country's generous support for flood relief and rehabilitation activities in Pakistan. George Furey said both the countries are committed to working together on matters of common interests including climate change, trade and investment.

Federal Minister visits Pakistan’s embassy in Athens

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Sajid Hussain Turi visited the Pakistan’s embassy in Athens (Greece) and addressed the diplomatic staff and Pakistani journalists stationed there. The Federal Minister was briefed on the services of embassy by acting Ambassador of Pakistan in Athens. PM picks Lt Gen Asim Munir as new army chief, Lt Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza as CJCSC

ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Thursday announced that Lieutenant General Asim Munir would become Pakistan’s next army chief, replacing General Qamar Javed Bajwa. The announcement has been made by Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb on Twitter. She added that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, exercising his Constitutional right, has also appointed Lt Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC). Govt steers country out of risk to default: Finance Minister

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar on Thursday said coalition government has steered the country out of the risk to default. Talking to a private television channel, he said all the payments will be made on time. To a question, he said PTI chief is trying to return into power by adopting unethical and irresponsible ways. He hoped that the country will overcome all the difficulties in a short span of time. The Finance Minister said that government is ready for unconditional dialogue with PTI.
