Sindh LG elections: ECP reserves verdict on MQM-P’s plea against voter lists

Karachi:The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday reserved its verdict on reservations raised by the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) over ambiguity in voter lists in Karachi and Hyderabad ahead of the second phase of local government elections. An ECP bench headed by Chief Election Commissioner (CES) Sikandar Sultan Raja reserved the verdict after hearing arguments of MQM-P and other parties. At the onset of the hearing, the MQM-P lawyer argued that use of old voter lists for LG polls in Karachi and Hyderabad was illegal. To which, the chief election commission said the political party had been moving courts in the past over the delimitation issue, adding: “Why do the MQM come up with all the issues at once”. Pakistan rejects reports of airstrikes targeting TTP hideouts in Afghanistan

Islamabad:Pakistan on Friday rejected the reports regarding airstrikes targeting TTP hide-outs in Afghanistan and termed it “utterly baseless and malicious”. The Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zehra Baloch issued the statement after Afghan journalists claimed that Pakistani fighter planes targeted the suspected hide-outs of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) terrorists in two Afghani provinces, Kunar and Nangarhar. The Afghan journalists also shared fake photos of smoke pillowing out from the mountains in their WhatsApp groups. Faisalabad police kill two robbers in shootout

Faisalabad:Two suspected robbers were killed in a crossfire with the police in Tandlianwala area on Friday. A police team signaled four suspects to stop during checking near Chak 615 GB. The suspects opened fire on the policemen. Both sides exchanged fire as a result of which two suspects were killed and two others fled. The deceased were identified as Shahid and Ahsaan who were wanted by the local police for their involvement in several cases. Police seized two motorcycles and illegal weapons from the spot. Police claimed that the motorcycles were snatched from citizens. The dead bodies were shifted for autopsy and a case was registered.
