Health department being devolved to local level: Secretary

QUETTA: Secretary, Health Department, Saleh Muhammad Nasar, said on Saturday that empowering Incharge of Healthcare Centres was being processed in Health Department to devolve powers to local level. Severe cold: Fishermen advised to stop sailing into open sea

Glacier collapse floods Chilas village near Diamir area

Astore: Villagers ran for safer places as their houses were flooded after a glacier collapsed in Diamir area of Chilas, according to a report on Saturday. The outburst flood inundated houses in Pehpat village of Tangeer Valley after the glacier in Geechhar Lake caved in, triggering exodus locals on their own. The worried villagers have appealed to the administration to send help. There is a grave threat that more glaciers will collapse. JI files contempt of court petition against delay in LG polls

Karachi: Jamaat-e-Islami Saturday submitted a contempt of court petition in the Sindh High Court against the provincial government for writing a letter to the Election Commission of Pakistan expressing its inability to hold the local government elections in Sindh by citing inefficient security. I lawyer Usman Farooq Advocate said that despite court order, the Sindh government wrote a letter to the ECP requesting it to delay the LG polls. He said that it was Sindh government’s responsibility to make security arrangements for the local elections. The lawyer said that the court had given clear instructions in this regard. CTD Punjab claims to have arrested five militants

Lahore: Counter Terrorism Department Punjab on Saturday claimed to have arrested five militants from three cities and recovered explosive material, weapons and hand-grenades from their possession. According to CTD officials, five terrorists belonging to a banned organization were arrested from Lahore, Multan and Gujranwala in different operations. Four of the arrested militants were identified as Abdul Samad, Sohail, Ali Rahman and Noor Abbas. The CTD officials further said that they had also seized explosive material, weapons and hand-grenades from terrorists’ possession. The CTD officials lodged four cases against the detained terrorists, who were shifted to an unknown place for further interrogation.

Lawyers boycott Balochistan courts against Haq Do Tehreek leader’s arrest

Quetta: Lawyers on Saturday boycotted courts in Balochistan in protest against the arrest of Haq Do Tehreek (HDT) leader Maulana Hidayatur Rehman in Gwadar. The Balochistan Bar Council strongly condemned Maulana’s arrest and termed it as an act tantamount to contempt of court. The Bar urged Balochistan chief secretary and inspector-general of police to take immediate notice of the incident. It said that the HDT leader was in court with his lawyers to seek interim bail. It is the fundamental right of every citizen to appear before a court to seek interim bail, the Bar added.
