237 people become victims of honor killing in Punjab

LAHORE: Punjab Police has released statistics of honor killings in the province last year. According to which, in the year 2020, 237 people were killed in the name of honor.
The Punjab Police Department has released statistics on honor killings in the province last year. Honor killings in Punjab in 2020 increased compared to last year.

As per the statistics, 237 people were killed in the name of honor in the year 2020, while 197 people were killed in the name of honor in the year 2019.

The statistics show that Gujranwala region has the highest number of honor killings where 46 people were killed. 41 people were killed in Faisalabad region, 30 in Sargodha, 29 in Multan and 21 in Lahore. Twenty-five people were killed in Bahawalpur, 20 in Deri Ghazi Khan, 13 in Sahiwal and nine in Rawalpindi.

The Punjab police said that the number of men and women killed in the name of honor is equal, while police officers have cited the irresponsible use of mobile phones as the main reason for the increase in honor killings.
