In a major development, 268 Pakistani nationals stranded in Iraq were successfully flown back home earlier today, marking a crucial step in the government’s accelerated efforts to ensure the safe return of its citizens amid ongoing logistical challenges.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, working closely with Iraqi Airways, orchestrated two special flights from Basra, landing in Karachi and Islamabad with all passengers safe and accounted for. These operations are part of a broader repatriation campaign launched in response to the increasing concerns about travel disruptions affecting Pakistani zaireen (pilgrims) in Iraq.
Officials confirmed that the ministry is maintaining active coordination with both Iraqi Airways and relevant Iraqi authorities to facilitate the smooth return of all remaining nationals.
To keep travel orderly and efficient, all Pakistani pilgrims currently in Iraq are strongly urged to maintain close communication with the Pakistan Embassy in Baghdad, designated mandoobs (representatives), and their airlines for updates on flight schedules and arrangements.
In addition to chartered flights, Iraqi Airways is currently offering daily commercial service on the Basra-Dubai route. Several Pakistani travelers have already utilized this channel, and those interested are encouraged to approach the nearest Iraqi Airways office for bookings and support.
Travelers are reminded to be prepared for immediate departure, as new flight options may become available with little prior notice. The foreign office reaffirmed its full commitment to overseeing a secure and timely return of all remaining Pakistani nationals still awaiting repatriation.
